Instructions of Usage
For Better User Experience:
For better user experience, the user would need to install an additional app. Please follow the steps below.
- Install ‘Volume Control For Stick’ App on Fire TV Stick. If you launch it, you would see a screen “Limited Functionality Alert”.
- Before proceeding further, please enable Developer Options on Fire TV Stick: ‘Settings > My Fire TV > About > Fire TV Stick’ and press ‘Select’ button on Fire TV’s remote seven times to enable ‘Developer Options’. Developer Options can now be seen on ‘Settings > My Fire TV’. Go to Developer Options and turn ‘ADB debugging’ to ON.
- Now install ‘Volume Control Utility’ App on an Android phone or Windows 10/11 PC and launch it.
- Enter Fire TV’s IP address and press submit in ‘Volume Control Utility’ App on Android Phone or Windows PC. (Fire TV’s IP address can be found from “Settings > My Fire TV > About > Network”. An example of IP address is 192.168.1.10)
- On Fire TV’s screen, one message will be displayed asking user to ‘Allow USB Debugging’. Please select “Always Allow from this computer” and press “OK”.
- Now go to “Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Volume Control”, perform “Force Stop” and “Launch Application”. (Or simply restart the Fire TV Stick and then launch the app “Volume Control”.)
- If you do not see “Limited Functionality Alert” as first screen after the app launch, then it is all good. If you still “Limited Functionality Alert”, please repeat from step 2 onwards.
- When you press volume buttons (‘+’, ‘-” or ‘mute’) , you can see volume level at bottom-left corner of the screen. If remote does not have volume buttons, then volume control can be activated by long pressing ‘Select’ button on the remote for 2-3 seconds, and the volume level will be visible on bottom-left corner of the screen. Now use ‘Up’ button of navigation dial to increase volume or ‘Down’ button of navigation dial to decrease volume.
- The volume can be increased/decreased anytime even when a video is playing on the screen.
- The Volume Control Service will get automatically started on restart of Fire TV stick, and the us4er need not launch the “Volume Control” App .
‘Volume Control Utility’ App can be downloaded from:
Utility App on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neoyantra.volumectrlutil
Windows: https://www.neoyantra.com/Apps/VolumeControlUtility.zip
The “Volume Control Utility” is needed only for one time usage after fresh install of “Volume Control” App.
For Simple Users
If the user finds this procedure difficult, please follow the below instructions for simple use with minimal functionality:
- Install ‘Volume Control For Stick’ App on Fire TV Stick. On launch of the App, one would see a screen “Limited Functionality Alert”. Please ignore the message.
- When user presses volume buttons (‘+’, ‘-” or ‘mute’) on Fire TV remote, the user can see volume level information printed towards bottom-right corner of the screen. The volume buttons work like a normal TV.
- If remote does not have volume buttons, then volume control can be done using Media Control buttons (‘<<‘, ‘>||’ and ‘>>’). Use fast-forward button ‘>> ‘ to increase volume or Rewind button ‘<<‘ to decrease volume. Play/Pause button ‘>||’ mutes the audio on Fire TV.
- The volume of Fire TV using Media Control buttons can not be controlled from within the video apps. The volume can be increased/decreased only on ‘Home’ screen of the Fire TV Stick or while on “Volume Control” App screen. The user needs to come to home screen of Fire TV (by pressing Home button on Fire TV remote) and then perform volume control. User can then open the video streaming app like YouTube.
- The Volume Control Service will get automatically started on restart of Fire TV stick, and the user need not launch the “Volume Control” App after every reboot of the Fire TV Stick.
On Fire TV Sticks with Fire OS 5 and 6, the fast forward (‘>>’) , rewind (‘<<‘) and pause (‘>||’) buttons of the remote can be used to increase, decrease or mute the volume. The volume level can not be displayed on the screen.
